The College started in Oct.1956 to meet the growing demand of trained teachers for educational institutions such as middle and secondary schools.This institution was affiliated to Punjab University Chandigarh and subsequently after reorganization of states and creation of Himachal Pradesh the College was affiliated to H.P.U Shimla This co-educational institution was catering to the needs of pre-service teacher-trainees only. In 1962 NCERT New Delhi Established an extension center in this institution to cater to the growing needs of in-service teachers of District of Chamba then entire Kangra which included present Una,Hamirpur Districts.This department disseminated information to in service teachers in the field of Curriculum,methodology,evaluation and other allied fields in education for updating their continued professional growth.In 1994, The Ministry of Human Resource Development ,New Delhi upgraded this college of Education to State College of Teacher Education.This college has blossomed into center for excellence in the teacher training programmers for pre-service as well as in-service teachers.This is the only Govt. institution in H. P which has the distinction of providing trained teachers to every nook and corner of Himachal Pradesh and has contributed significantly to meet out the manpower requirement of Secondary Schools.Our College is NAAC accredited with B-grade.
